The most significant event in 2009? 





The death of Claude Lévi-Strauss (1908-2009) famous for his revolutionary studies of what was once called “primitive man” that transformed Western understanding of the nature of culture, custom and civilization.

Why is it significant? When one of the greatest mind of the 20th century died October the 30th, the world lost one of its voice of wisdom.



My fondest memory? Well, my master in vocational psychology.

 While shopping for christmas, I found myself in front of Benjamin Lacombe's latest work, Les contes macabres, a collection of Poe's stories.

It's been a few years now that I stumble on his art for the first time but child's book weren't my prioriy on my books to buy list. I'll have to wait for my niece to get out of that phase where books are great to throw out or bite to spoil her with some!

1~ If you could live one historical period of you choice, when would you choose?
Because artistically, scientifically, historically and socially it has been an important turning point, I choose the Cinquecento. And to be be even more precise, in La Serenissima at its cultural greatness.

2~ What is your perfect way to spend a Sunday morning?
Unfortunately I've got the habit to sleep till midday, crawl out of the bed to indulge myself with coffee and cereals. But sometimes, I surprise myself in waking around 10 am fresh as a daisy. The ritual is always the same: I make some french toasts, a hot chocolate, grab a book or my recipes notebook to work on a new formula and go back to bed with my treasures till I decide that a shower would be great.
Fascinating, isn't it?

3~ Do you believe in true love?
This is truly a difficult question. Don't repeat it to my friends and family, but yes I do. There's an incorrigible romantic deep inside me who's waiting for someone who will complete me. The practical side of me thinks that it doesn't happen to everybody and that I should be happy with what I have but, deeply, I crave to experience such a bond that will put my fears aside, who will get me out of my shell, makes me complete and inaccessible for a valid reason.

4~ What is you favorite fairytale, or modern retalling of one?
The Little Red Riding Hood. Not the sweetened one. The originals. And the Angela Carter's version. Another answer would be "Have you read The Uses of enchantment: The meaning and Importance of Fairy Tales by Bruno Bettelheim?".

5~ Do you have a motto, and if so, what is it?
Omnia mutantur, nos et mutamur in illis. All things change, and we change with them (Ovide). It just seems accurate to me.

Wow... I'm still surprised that people are planning to ban books from libraries and bookstores. It reminds me of that time when Sarkozy wanted to ban Lolita from the bookstores shelves because it "encourages paedophilia", like The anarchist cookbook is the only way for someone to find how to make a bomb. Chemistry lessons anyone?

Whatever topics, ideas and ideologies can be found in books, we need to cross some boundaries to understand the world we live in.

And if a teenage can explain his/her physical reaction or his/her thoughts process after a reading session, all the better.
